If you’re looking to get started wakeboarding, you obviously want to make sure you have the right one.
There are several different sizes of wakeboards out there to choose from, so let’s take a closer look and see which wakeboard size is best for you!
When it comes to the size of a wakeboard that you’re supposed to use, it actually depends more on your weight than on your height.
So, someone who weighs less than 100 pounds can use a board that’s 130 cm or less.
Someone who is 200 or more pounds would use a board approximately 144 cm or less.
As you can tell, the sizes don’t vary a whole lot, but those longer boards are designed to provide more even weight distribution and safety.
Some people prefer to fudge the size of their wakeboard a little bit.
That means they may choose a board that’s not necessarily the right match for their weight.
When you opt for a short wakeboard, you’re generally going to have a slower ride.
This is because the board has less surface area and, therefore, takes a bit more time to move through the water.
You may have an easier time maneuvering for some cool tricks as you ride, but you’re going to have a harder landing and you could end up with the nose of the board hitting the water first, which can make you fall off.
On the other hand, a longer board, one that’s a little long for your size, will give you a bit more solid footing and may be easier for you to ride which can be encouraging for new riders.
You’ll have a little harder time getting those tricks in, but you are going to have a lot more control and you’ll move quickly through the water.
Plus, when you do land a trick you’re going to have a much softer landing.
That can be a good thing for someone who is just getting started or doesn’t want to be moving quite so fast.
Another key aspect to consider is the actual shape of your wakeboard, and that’s going to depend on whether you’re new or you’ve been wakeboarding for an extended period of time.
Beginner and intermediate boards, for example, are going to be entirely different in shape than a wakeboard designed for an advanced or expert rider.
That’s because as a beginner, you may need a little more support and have a little less of the balance figured out.
